Battersea Winter Run Festival 2024

Today, I ran in a race called the Battersea Run Festival, and it was both challenging and exciting. One of the tricky parts of the race was that there weren’t many marshals to guide us along the course. This made it harder to feel confident about where I was going. Luckily, there was a boy running in front of me, and I decided to follow him to stay on track. It wasn’t ideal, but it helped me keep my focus during the race.

The course started in the stadium, which felt really special, and then we ran out onto the paths before finishing back in the stadium. It was a unique experience, and I loved the energy of starting and ending in such an exciting place. While I was running, I realised something incredible—I was the first girl in the entire race! This made me feel so proud, and it gave me a boost to keep pushing myself. Even better, I found out I was in fourth place overall, which is a huge achievement for me.

However, the race wasn’t without its challenges. At one point, I accidentally stepped into a puddle that was hidden under some leaves. It made my shoe wet and uncomfortable, but I kept going. Then, to make things even harder, I noticed that the chip on my shoe, which tracks my race time, had fallen off somewhere along the way. This worried me a bit because I wasn’t sure if my time would be recorded properly, but I decided not to let it distract me too much.

My pace for the race was 4:18 per kilometre, which I’m quite happy with, but the course was slightly shorter than planned. It ended up being 2.75 kilometres instead of the full 3K. Despite this, I still gave it my best effort. My age percentage was 82.43%, which is a great score for someone my age. Knowing that I achieved such a high percentage makes me feel really proud of my performance.

Looking back, I think I did really well, but there’s always room for improvement. The boy who finished just ahead of me was only a few seconds in front, and I believe I could have caught up to him if I had pushed just a little harder towards the end. It’s something I’ll keep in mind for my next race—to give it everything I have in the final stretch.

Overall, I’m thrilled with how I performed, especially being the first girl in the race and placing fourth overall. This experience has taught me a lot, and I know I can do even better in the future. I’m excited to keep training and improving so that I can aim for an even higher position in the next race!
