Middlesex Young Athletics League at Perivale on 3rd May 2025

Today, I ran in the Middlesex Young Athletics League at Perivale. I was very proud to take part because I was chosen to be in the scoring team for my athletics club in the under 11s age group. This meant a lot to me, as it showed that my coaches believed in me. The race distance was 600 metres, and I felt confident that I could get a strong time and help my team.

This was my first race of the track season, and I was really excited. I enjoy track season much more than cross country, especially because I prefer running on a smooth surface rather than in the cold and muddy fields. I had trained hard and was looking forward to seeing what I could do. I told myself to stay focused, especially at the start, so I could get off the line quickly and settle into a good rhythm.

As soon as the race began, I pushed myself as hard as I could. I tried to keep my form and stay strong all the way around the track. It was a fast race, and the other runners were very good too, but I stayed close and didn’t give up. In the final stretch, I gave everything I had. I managed to overtake two runners just before the finish line, which made me feel really proud. It showed that I can be strong right to the end.

In the end, I came fourth, which I was really pleased with. I had to fight hard for that place, and it felt great to move up in the final few metres. That moment proved to me that I’m a tough competitor and that I don’t give up easily, even when I’m tired.

I was also very happy with my time — 2 minutes and 4 seconds. That’s a personal best for me! My previous best time in a track meeting was 2 minutes and 15 seconds, so I improved by 11 seconds. That’s a big step forward. I do think I could have pushed a bit harder during the middle part of the race, but since it was my first track race of the season, I’m still very happy with how it went.

My next race is coming up at the start of June, and I’m already feeling motivated to train hard and do even better. There’s still lots of room to improve, and I want to keep getting faster. I was also proud of how my club did. Between me and the other scorer, we earned 12 points, which puts us in a great position for the rest of the league. I can’t wait to race again and try to help the team even more!
