SCHOOL SPORTS DAY 9 TH JULY 2025

Today was sports day at school, and I was super excited. I love running, and I had been waiting for this day for ages. The sun was out, the grass was freshly cut, and everyone was in their sports kits, ready for their races. I was especially looking forward to the 300-metre race. There were only two other girls in the race with me, but I still felt nervous. I wanted to give it my best and try to come first.

As I walked over to the starting line, I suddenly realised something—I had forgotten to put on my running spikes. I was wearing my normal trainers instead. My heart dropped. Spikes help me grip the grass better and run faster, and without them, I knew the race would be harder. I quickly turned to one of the helpers near the track. He was a parent volunteer, and I asked him, “Please, can I go and quickly change into my spikes?” He looked at me and said, “Sorry, it’s too late. You need to stay at the start line.”

I felt a bit panicked and disappointed. I really didn’t want to race without my spikes. But then, just in time, my dad came walking over. He noticed something was wrong and asked what was going on. I told him, and he turned to the helper and said, “Can she quickly change her shoes?” This time, the man said, “Alright, just this once.” I was so relieved! I ran as fast as I could to grab my spikes and quickly changed my shoes. I made it back to the starting line just in time.

Once I was ready, we all lined up. I took a deep breath and focused. The whistle blew, and we were off! I got a really strong start and took the lead in the first 120 metres. The wind was blowing a little, but I didn’t let it bother me. I could hear people cheering on the sides, and it gave me the energy to keep going. My legs started to get tired halfway through, but I didn’t stop. I just kept running as fast as I could.

As I got closer to the finish line, I gave it everything I had. I was still in the lead, and I didn’t want to lose it. I pushed myself all the way to the end, and finally, I crossed the finish line in first place! I couldn’t believe it—I had won the race. My final time was 51 seconds for the 300 metres, which I thought was really good.

After the race, I felt so proud of myself. My friends and teachers came to say well done, and my dad gave me a big hug. I was so glad he had stepped in and helped me change my shoes just in time. Winning the race made my whole day, and I’ll never forget how it felt to cross that finish line first. Sports day ended up being one of the best days ever!
